the instructions of Late Dr. M. D. Desai and the college
was planned as per his concept of an ideal medical college.
To start with in the first year 75 students were admitted
for the 1st MBBS course and from 1964 onwards 100 students
have been admitted per year in the 1st MBBS course in Smt.
N. H. L. Municipal Medical College. To establish in institution
is difficult but to nurture it properly in the early years
is still more difficult. Late Dr. M. D. Desai saw to it
and from its inception the college established a pattern,
which was so perfect and so ideal that the future of the
college was sound and clear. He with his foresight coupled
with practical wisdom, put the college on firm footing and
steered it clear of initial teething troubles. Dr. Desai’s
services and dedication for the college can never be forgotten
and words are inadequate to describe it.

Right from its inception the college is fortunate
to have the services of well-qualified and dedicated teachers.
For a college, more important that the building is the quality
of teachers. It is not an exaggeration to say that to a
very great extent it was the teachers who attracted the
best among the bright students to this college for pursuing
their medical studies. The twin combination of inherent
brilliance of students and guidance of advice of the dedicated
teachers has brought about the best result. The prestige
of the college has increased year by year. Many dedicated
teachers, some of whom have retired, have contributed to
the progress of this institute.
The students are the heart of the college and it is they
who keep the college and campus pulsating with life and
vigour.
A.M.C. has taken up the responsibility of
medical education. For taking up this function the people
of city of Ahmedabad in general and the medical persons
in particular owe a lot of gratitude to the corporation
because even though medical education is not one of the
compulsory functions of the corporation, Ahmedabad Municipal
Corporation is providing these facilities. But for this
noble gesture, hundreds of medicos would have been deprived
of their chance to pursue medical studies and obtain medical
degrees.
